Following academic research in economic development he has worked in consultancy for PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Deloitte, KPMG, Cushman & Wakefield, and SQW, before founding HJA in 2011. The core theme of his work is the economic impact of investment and new developments.

In recent years he has undertaken projects for local authorities, Local Enterprise Partnerships, landowners, and developers, in areas including low carbon energy infrastructure (nuclear, tidal, wave, wind, and carbon capture and storage); business cases for public funding for innovation, property and infrastructure projects; workspace demand evidence; strategies for market and coastal towns; and economic development strategies for local areas.
