Wiltshire Council and Swindon Borough Council are reviewing their local plans. HJA is in the process of delivering a Functional Economic Market Areas (FEMA) assessment, which will inform this review by providing robust evidence for the future economic needs in the area.
We have helped Wiltshire and Swindon Councils to understand the economic geography of their area, identifying three FEMAs. We have carried out extensive research into the economies of Swindon and Wiltshire, thoroughly tested through documentary review and stakeholder consultation, with a wide range of public and private sector consultees contributing to the process. By working closely with stakeholders, we have been able to develop economic and employment scenarios for the areas. These will inform an understanding of the land and floorspace requirements in the study area over the period to 2037 in order to support the economy.
Our final report is set for publication in combination with a Strategic Housing Market Assessment (SHMA) produced by Opinion Research Services. This work will inform planning policy and the continuation of planning strategy in Wiltshire and Swindon, giving the Councils a better understanding of the housing requirements and employment needs in their area.
